In memory of Elmwood

Elmwood
Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
The VINS community is still mourning the loss of our Bald Eagle, Elmwood, who passed away this spring. Over the past 24 years, Elmwood was an emblematic presence on campus. She preferred to sit front and center and as close to visitors as she could get. Volunteers and staff described her as queen of the enclosures, a legend, and as a force to be reckoned with. She would let out her boisterous Bald Eagle call, alerting all on campus, when someone or something interesting was near her enclosure. You can memorialize Elmwood through our Ambassador Adopt Program which provides care for our other animal ambassadors.
