Quechee
Blue Jay
Cyanocitta cristata
Quechee arrived at VINS in August of 2020 as a rehabilitation patient. Although he was uninjured, he was found landing on people, and it was clear he had been imprinted on humans and did not have the skills to survive as a wild blue jay.He was likely found as a young nestling and raised illegally and incorrectly, becoming imprinted while growing up around people. Although a great ambassador for his species, Quechee is also a perfect example of one of the many reasons wild birds should only be raised by licensed rehabilitators, who can provide the care and environment for them to successfully be released back into the wild. Quechee now serves as the lead ambassador of the blue jay enclosure at VINS.
