Fairlee
Peregrine Falcon
Falco peregrinus
Fairlee is a local, coming into VINS from Fairlee, Vermont, an area known for peregrine falcon nesting. Fairlee was found in April of 2017, unable to fly due to a wing injury. With x-rays, VINS rehabilitators diagnosed a fractured wrist joint. Despite treatment, Fairlee’s wing never healed exactly right. The resulting very slight wing droop makes it impossible for Fairlee to fly and hunt at the high speeds of a falcon. Instead, she observes visitors from her cliff-like perches while serving as an exhibit ambassador.
