Eastern Screech Owls

Fairchance & West Virginia

Eastern Screech Owls
Megascops asio

Fairchance and West Virginia were both originally found injured and then treated at the Avian Conservation Foundation of Appalachia in Morgantown, West Virginia. Both birds had been injured from suspected vehicle collisions but after treatment they were unable to fly well enough for release. West Virginia was the first of the pair to transfer to VINS in 2018 with Fairchance arriving in 2019. Although they are unable to sustain flight, they are still able to get high into the trees and nest boxes of their enclosure and show their mastery of camouflage.
